Penile deformity OR Peyronie´s disease
Penile deformity is a kind of disease which in medical term called penile plastic induration or Peyronie´s disease. The disease is described as a slow progressive bending or deformity of the penis caused by a hardening (plaque) on the upper midline of the penis.
Penile deformity may cause severe functional sexual difficulty for men, even though the disease is in a state of progression, it can affect men severely during sexual intercourse ranging from pain on erection, pain during sexual intercourse to inability to complete the sexual act.
Correcting Penile Deformity
Correction of penile deformities can be done successfully with surgical method and is required in many patients who are not able to enjoy their sex life due to this condition. Surgical reconstruction is typically reserved for men with deformity:
- That makes almost impossible to perform satisfactory sexual intercourse
- Causes pain for themselves or their partners during sexual relations, or because of distress.
In addition, many people with penile deformities, or Peyronie´s disease can physically accomplish sexual intercourse, but not with total satisfaction. And many are dissatisfied with sexual life because their deformity precludes spontaneity, or needs specific positions /dynamics that detract from satisfaction.
Surgical method involves removal of the plaque and straightening of the bent area. Unlike other operative procedures, there is no shortening the penis on the opposite side, the area of plaque removal being replaced by skin or vein transplant harvested from the patient’s own body.
But prior to surgery, it is advisable to know about your (a) Nature of Deformity (b) Magnitude of Deformity (c) Penile Length and (d) Erectile Hemodynamics
To plan a successful surgical approach, an accurate assessment of the nature of the patient’s deformity is a key factor. And having clear idea what magnitude of deformity exists is also important, as large degrees of curvature can make hard to perform placation type of surgery.
So, Penile implant surgery, or penile prosthesis for Peyronie´s disease is the best reserved for patients who are suffering from erectile dysfunction and Peyronie´s disease. The advantage of penile implant surgery include excellent rigidity, and in patient mild to moderate curvature, excellent deformity correction.
But, before undergoing surgery to treatment penile deformity, it is utmost important to consult with surgeon all your concerns and you should have realistic expectations. |
